CONNECTING BIM & GIS

The workshop looks further into reading and writing BIM and GIS models and data. From design to software development, this workshop will give you a brief overview of how to stream GIS data in your design software for better design decision-making, and how to host your models and data in an open-source smart-cities platform for further simulation and presentation.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the workshop, the participants will be able to:

  • Learn the general characteristics of Geospatial Data, where they came from, where to find them and how to use them in your existing BIM design workflow.

  • Learn how to load your BIM models and GIS data in an open-source smart-cities platform to simulate BIM projects in 3D maps.

  • Analyze and find out what the key pain points are in your workflow and find ways to align them with more productivity, correct interoperability and information management.

VIRTUAL WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

The workshop is designed to help you understand how geospatial data are formed and how they can help us in designing better and more optimized designs for our cities. We will use Rhino 3D, Grasshopper, VisualARQ, and QGIS to bring in geospatial data and investigate the capabilities of informing our BIM designs, and finally, load your models and data in an open-source smart-cities platform (CityLite) to simulate your BIM project alongside geospatial data and 3D maps.

Structure of the Virtual workshop:

  • 60 mins teaching

  • 30 mins discussion & Q&A

Following the teaching session, the instructor will interact with the participants in a hands-on exercise and Q&A that will guide the audience in working with GIS data and models.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR

The course is designed for experienced BIM professionals that seek a deeper perspective on the GIS world and its integration with BIM.
